Phil is a registered psychologist and clinical psychology registrar who is passionate about helping his clients to understand their difficulties and experiences, while working with them to achieve their own goals. He has a particular focus on building a safe and comfortable space for people to discuss what is important to them, adopting an empathic and non-judgemental approach to building strong and lasting therapeutic relationships. The core values that guide his practice are honesty, kindness, authenticity, and equality.

He previously worked in community settings particularly with young people and their families on difficulties with mood and anxiety related to work or study stress, as well as social anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He also has experience working with older adults who have experienced trauma or grief and loss, and those struggling with anger management or substance use. Prior to his work with clients he also completed his PhD in behavioural neuroscience, working to better understand the mechanisms that drive problem gambling and addiction. He is passionate about evidence-based treatment and research, and uses up-to-date information to guide his work with clients.

He is particularly interested in working with clients who have struggled to see positive change and reach their wellness goals, where he offers a range of different modalities and to help find the right fit for his clients. In the first session, he will discuss your previous therapy experiences and what you found helpful, with an aim to find an approach that clicks for you.

  • Mindfulness-based strategies
  • Dialectical-behavioural therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational interviewing

  • Schema-informed therapy (Currently seeking formal accreditation)
